Just starting out

Posted by: Big John Dec 8 2002, 10:13 AM
Greetings,
I wanted to introduce myself and seek some insight.
I am at present a technician that works for Verizon. I worked there for about three now and I am one of the workers who face layoffs this December (Merry Christmas Dammit!). I worked for 8 years at another job that paid me well, but the time I spent away form home after getting married and having children was not how I wanted to live so I decided to make plans to become financially free While I was making transition between jobs I was researching and studying different ways to say goodbye to my job forever. To make a long story short I decided that I get into real estate, I incorporated and obtained a Real Estate license. Now the hard part is the financing. As a start up company I am desperately seeking funding. I started out with an investment group that will put up cash as long as I fall within their financial guideline. The problem is in the New York area it's few and far between when those deals will come along. So I am in the process of courting other investors and I need to get some more insight.

Dear Big John:

I am a little confused about what it is that you are doing. On the one hand, you talk about a real estate license so that leads me to believe that you want to be a realtor. On the other hand, you talk about an investment group providing financing as long as you meet their financial guidelines.

The source of my confusion is that there is no need to get a license in order to invest in real estate property and if your goal is to become a realtor, I would think that you might want to work as an associate with someone before opening your own shop. You need to elaborate some more regarding what you need investors for and how much are you looking for in order for me to give you some guidance.
